Róbert Ragan Jr. is Slovak double bass and electric bass player. He represents the music generation born around the 1990’s.
Róbert Ragan Jr. was growing up surrounded by music since his childhood. As a six-year-old he began to learn violin at an art school under the guidance of his father, who is a well known Slovak double bassist. During his studies at a high school in Banská Bystrica, Róbert became fascinated with electric bass after discovering the music of Jaco Pastorius. This was a key moment in his life.
Robert later changed schools and focused on studying classical double bass in his father’s class at the Conservatory in Banská Bystrica. During his classical studies, Robert attended private jazz lessons under guidance of Klaudis Kováč – great Slovak jazz pianist and music educator. At this time, Robert also took part in a number of music contests, along with his peers, where he won solo and group awards.
Immediately after his studies, Robert started to collaborate with many professional Slovak musicians and music projects, such as: Martin Uherek, Lukáš Oravec, Radovan Tariška, Ondrej Krajňák, Klaudis Kováč, Robo Opatovský, Matúš Jakabčic SK/CZ big band and many more.
